Bakithi Kumalo

Bakithi Kumalo, born in Soweto, Johannesburg, grew up in a musical family, starting his career at just seven years old. He became a sought-after session bassist in South Africa during the 1970s and 1980s, collaborating with international artists. In 1985, he joined Paul Simon for the iconic Graceland album, which propelled him to fame. Known for his distinctive fretless bass sound, Kumalo has performed with legends like Joan Baez and Cyndi Lauper. He has released several solo albums, showcasing his unique blend of African rhythms and contemporary styles, solidifying his reputation as a leading bassist globally.
